About Tina
My family migrated to Australia from Taiwan over three decades ago and my parents made a great choice in deciding to settle in Box Hill to raise the family.
I have spent most of my life in the area, having grown up in Box Hill, attending St Francis Xavier Primary School and Our Lady of Sion College, before obtaining my Bachelor and Master degrees – in Information System and Commerce respectively – from the University of Melbourne. I remain a Box Hill resident and business owner today.
A true Independent candidate, I am not nor have I ever been a member of a political party. An active and engaging community leader, I continue to advocate for the needs of our community.
I have assisted with various community initiatives such as safety and crime prevention, food safety, sustainability – including greening and recycling/waste management, local business, arts and cultural activities and sports engagement.
In 2016, I was elected as a Councillor to represent the former Elgar Ward on Whitehorse Council. The electorate saw boundary changes in 2020, and in the Council election that year, I was honoured to have been re-elected as Councillor for the new Sparks Ward (encompassing Box Hill and Box Hill South). A year later, I had the privilege of serving as Mayor of our great city (2021-2022).
As a Box Hill local, Councillor and former Mayor, I hold a deep understanding of our municipality, community needs, local government and sound governance practices. I have been involved in a number of local community/not-for-profit organisations and have held board positions, including Chair of the Whitehorse Manningham Library Corporation.
As a leader, I am accessible and community-focused – bringing experience, diversity of thought and professionalism to the role.
My interests include community service and engagement, community health and wellbeing, sustainability, urban design, transport, local business and animal welfare.
During my downtime, I also enjoy cooking, nature, history, the arts and exercising – including hiking with my dog Summer.
While we’ve achieved great results together, I hope to continue working with the Sparks community for more positive outcomes moving forward.
